Essentials of Growth
Know God. Know others. Be known.
Growing spiritually means becoming more and more like Jesus in every area of life, and reproducing that growth in others. Spiritual growth isn't a one-size-fits-all, but here are a few fundamentals we consider essential in growing with God.
1. Attend Weekend SWAT experiences...
Gather with others to explore questions about God and the Bible, and be challenged to apply what you learn about life. We have Junior and Senior High "Donuts and the Bible" each Sunday morning at 9:45 am in either the downstairs Junior High Room or the upstairs Senior High Room. We go to worship together in Epworth's Sanctuary at 11:00 for Worship and then gather again Sunday evening at either the Junior or Senior High SWAT gathering in Epworth's Family Life Center. Junior Sunday evening SWAT gathers at 6:00 pm until 7:15 pm. Senior Sunday evening SWAT gathers at 7:30 pm until 9:00 pm.
2. Engage with God daily...
Reading the Bible and praying on a regular basis teach us how to hear and respond to God's voice. An easy way to read the Bible daily through an organized plan is through an online Bible at http://www.youversion.com. A great daily reading plan is the First Steps Reading Plan which can be sent to your computer or smart phone each and every day. This daily reading plan is accomplished in just 15 minutes a day in a simple format of reading, reflection and response.
3. Get in Community...
Some teens say "I don't know anybody...." and that highlights a guarantee about SWAT experiences. If you don't come, you'll know nobody at SWAT, other teens or our passionate adult team. Come Sunday morning and evening, go on our countless retreats as we do missions and outreach and just have fun. The flip side guarantee is, come and meet others and you'll develop great friends and smaller communities where you can be fully known and always be accepted for who you are. Some think their spiritual journey is a solo ride, but small community and authentic relationships that help keep us accountable is the priceless portion of our faith journey. Sure you can study theology by yourself, but our best faith journey is with a community of believers. Come.....
4. Live Generously...
Be a part of something bigger than yourself by connecting with people in need, joining a serving team or begin financial giving. Being generous with your time and money blesses others and they're important ways God forms our character and grows us.
